Gigging is not fishing in the usual sense, there is no rod and no cast. A bright light off the bow lights up the shallow bottom and you watch for the outline of a flounder buried in the sand.
What a trip actually looks like
Captain Wade poles Drum Runner slowly and quietly across the flats after dark while the gigging light lights up a wide patch of bottom ahead of the boat. When someone spots a flounder, the gig does the rest.

We usually run gigging trips as an evening add on to a daytime charter, since the tide and light conditions that make gigging good are often at their best right after sunset.
